... a political rant...

often times, smaller churches and church plants meet in local schools.  in areas like mine where commercial real estate and retail space is astronomical, partnering with schools has afforded us the luxury of having a cost-effective way to gather in a community. it's a win-win because we have a somewhat inexpensive way to meet and the school gets additional money to help their budget a bit.

i just got finished reading this article about a provision in the stimulus bill.  This provision bans money designated for school renovation from being spent on facilities that allow "religious worship".  wow.  where will that put us and other communities of faith that meet in schools? on the streets i fear.  what principal in his/her right mind would give up funds for "modernization, renovation, or repair" to let a church meet in his/her school?

"President Obama's version of faith-based initiatives is to remove the faith from initiative," says Staver, who believes Obama has "a completely different view on faith" from what he said during his presidential campaign.

i was hoping that Obama would surprise me. i was hoping he was all he wanted us to believe he was.   from funding abortions to penalizing religious worship, it shows me he's not. and that makes me sad. :(

I am also very sad. As a family we decided to give Obama a chance. On Inauguration day we gave our kids this big speech about supporting our President, praying for him and always showing respect. After the abortion reinstatement, and now with his efforts on school restrictions and all the other pork in the stimulus bill........ I am sad.

Wow. This is extremely sad. It takes away freedom to gather and worship. I also wanted to give him a chance, but so far I'm more than just disappointed.

maybe i'm a little jaded, but politics is dirty work. i never expect any politician to follow-thru with anything they promise to provide.

this 'stimulus' spending makes me sick. so does our american media. spin, spin, spin. both ways. blech.

that said, this little thought just popped into my head: so maybe smaller churches/plants/communities might get put 'on the streets', as you put it. which kind of makes me smile.....on the street. out 'in public'. among the people. within earshot. the Light of Truth and the Perfect Love, 'outed'. hidden under a bushel, no! :) i'm being a little silly, but you know what i mean. what some intend for harm, He intends for good - the saving of many lives. a stretch, maybe - but maybe not? :)

This is a copy from a blog I read a few minutes ago:

Jim DeMint has just offered an amendment (#189) to the stimulus bill that would strike a provision preventing the funding of University facilities used for “sectarian instruction, religious worship, or a school or department of divinity; or in which a substantial portion of the functions of the facilities are subsumed in a religious mission.”

I sorta thought Hannity was right all along about just where this man stands.... about as far left as he can get.

It's a public building. If a church applies for building use and is denied because of the "religious worship" language, the situation is ripe for a constitutional challenge. There is nothing to challenge until a church seeks to use the building and is denied. Don't let this provision deter you from seeking use of a school gym or auditorium if that is where you think you should be.
